Erratic weather situations led to a lack of rain in the monsoon season, but subsequent heavy rains damaged crops in many villages in Uttar Pradesh.

“We prepare all the crops by borrowing from the banks, but there are dozens of those villages that have been destroyed by the rain,” said Ramcharan, a farmer.
Heavy rains flooded the fields and destroyed rice, maize, potato crops, millet such as bajra and pulses such as urad.
“We planted the potato early at the end of September. But this year, about seven hectares of our potato farm were affected by heavy rains. Etawah recorded 81 mm of average precipitation in the first week of October, 876% higher than the long-term average (LPE) of 8. 3 mm. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered officials to provide immediate assistance to farmers who were affected by the rain. The state government conducts UP damage assessment investigations.

According to the IMD, the UP has noticed 30% less rain this monsoon season. As a result, 53 of the state’s districts recorded inadequate rainfall, affecting Kharif’s crops.
