Movistar denies suggesting Israel Start-Up Nation that it leaves Vuelta a Burgos due to coronavirus

Movistar director Pablo Lastras has categorically denied that his team has advised Israel Start-Up Nation to leave the Vuelta a Burgos after taking flight two of its first starters as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.

The two Israeli Start-Up Nation drivers in question, Alex Dowsett and Itamar Einhorn, had contact with a third teammate, Omer Goldstein, who returned a positive to COVID-19 earlier this week. Both were negative.

Meanwhile, Lastras flatly denied a report in the Belgian press on Wednesday that Movistar had to go to Israel Start-Up Nation that his entire team resigns as a precaution.

“I categorically deny it,” Lastras said Wednesday night. “Neither Movistar nor any team has commented on this. It’s a false rumor.”

Lastras noted that one of Movistar’s other sports administrators, Txente García Acosta, is a component of the guilty career committee for COVID-19. He also advised that the abundant amount of behind-the-scenes paintings that groups do “to run safely” be covered more through the media.

“We are all subject to government criteria, not only at the national level, but also in the countries where we are going to be competitive,” he emphasized.

Lastras also expected the level of arrival at the summit on Thursday in Picón Blanco, noting that on such an exposed rise, the wind “would be a key factor”. Whether it’s headwind or crosswind, things will be significantly replaced. “

“It’s a key test,” Lastras said.

“If you’re not fit, you have to waste as little time as possible to recover on Saturday in Las Lagunas de Neila. It’s going to be an attractive day.”
