The number of Covid-19 instances in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region exceeded 1,596,682 on 2 September, according to Worldometer’s knowledge collected through MEED.
GCC accounts for 45.8% of all regional cases.
Saudi Arabia has the number of Cases of Covid-19 in the GCC, with 316,670 infections shown, 291,514 cures and 3,929 deaths.
Outside the GCC, countries in the wider mena region of Iran account for 30.6% (489,320) of the total 1.59 million infections.
Iraq (238,338) and Egypt (99,115) have some of the infection rates in the Great Mena region.In the Maghreb, Morocco has shown 63,781 cases to date, with 48,922 cures and 1,184 deaths.
On 1 September, Morocco’s Minister of Economy, Finance and Administrative Reform, Mohamed Benchaaboun, signed 3 guarantee agreements related to loans granted through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the National Airports Office, the National Highway Corporation and the Office of Electricity and Drinking Water.
The loans, valued at 3.2 billion dirhams ($357 million), are intended to help public sector entities cope with the Covid-19 effect.
Benchaaboun before this week that the first tranche of the EBRD’s 2.2 billion dirham ($240 million) investment for Morocco had been paid.
The first tranche was worth around 1 billion MD dollars and Morocco’s national reaction plan will oppose Covid-19.
