More than 86% of COVID-19 patients in Pakistan have recovered

Islamabad: The coronavirus curve, however, is being flattened in Pakistan, as the country has noticed a steady decline in cases with a cure rate of more than 86%.

The virus has inflamed another 271,887 people across Pakistan, of whom at least 236,596 have already recovered since the outbreak began last February. The number of active instances in the country now stands at 29,504, according to the latest knowledge of the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), the organization that coordinates national efforts in combating the pandemic.

As of Friday, at least 1,487 new cases were reported nationwide. Pakistan has recorded 24 coronavirus deaths in more than 24 hours, the lowest number of virus deaths in a day in months, the ministry of fitness said. With new deaths, the total number of deaths per COVID-19 has reached 5,787, according to official statistics.

During peak days in May and June, Pakistan reported an average of 5,000 cases in line with the day. The most instances on a 6,825 day last month.

The decreasing trend indicates that the spread of the disease is slowing down in Pakistan. However, the health officials have warned the citizens to strictly follow the health guidelines and observe social distancing particularly during the Eid Al Adha festival as the “next 10 days are very crucial” to contain the virus. “Any negligence by the people on Eid could hamper the improving health situation in the country” said the Planning Minister Asad Umar, who heads the NCOC.

The South Asian country has conducted more than 1.8 million coronavirus tests. On 24 July, 23,600 tests were carried out in the country. At least 11812 tests were conducted in Sindh, 7218 in Punjab, 1772 at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 2171 in Islamabad, 187 in Balochistan, 90 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 380 in AJK, according to the official portal.
