In its most recent update Saturday morning, Johns Hopkins University reported that the total number of cases and the number of deaths in the country were 26,804,927 and 459,278, respectively.

January 2021 to the deadliest month of the pandemic in the country, with more than 95,000 deaths from covid-19, surpassing the December 2020 total of more than 77,000 deaths.
