Chewing: As the fifth phase of Vande Bharat (VBM) flights begins, many Indian expats in Oman have started packing their bags and say goodbye to a country that had been their home for years.
“The announcement of the flights came at an opportune time when we had just won our payments due. As they say, Eid is reporting smart news and I hope we can start over in India,” said Kerala’s Raizal Osman. Faizal was running for a monetary facility in Muscat when he won a redundancy account in April.
Many, such as Faizal, who lost their homework as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, have been unpaid since April. “When I look around, I feel like I’m one of the lucky few who received a partial quota agreement in May. This has helped me manage expenses over the past two months.
Vijay Menon, another Indian from Kerala, had sent his circle of relatives on one of the flights beyond VBM, while he stayed to sell his car and other relative belongings that he had accumulated for more than two decades. “There were a lot of things like furniture, electronic devices and clothing that we had bought our rest at Muscat for the past 20 years. Even after packing the maximum, there were still things for some other container,” Vijay said, adding that he can get the most out of the products through online platforms and through his friends.
With an abysmal turnover and little clarity about the pandemic for the foreseeable future, several organizations have been forced to reduce their size, leading many expats to lose their jobs.
Anuj Swarup, secretary at the time of the Indian Embassy in Oman, speaking to Gulf News in this context, said the Vande Bharat project in Oman that began on May 9 has so far operated a total of 105 flights, allowing more than 18,000 Indian citizens to travel back to India.
In addition to this, more than 38,000 Indian citizens have traveled to India on 216 charter flights operated through social organizations and various other organizations. The Indian Embassy appreciates the cooperation and cooperation of the Government of Oman and the Government of India. I would also like to thank Oman’s social organizations and social staff for their help in the repatriation of Indian citizens.
“Upon entering Phase Five of the Vande Bharat mission, a total of 19 flights were planned in the first part of August to various states of India. The flights were scheduled according to the records obtained through the embassy and we will continue to facilitate that of Indian citizens,” Anuj said.
