More than 41,000 coVID-19 blood donations restrictions in Dubai

Dubai: Dubai Health Authority (DHA) Dubai Blood Donor Center won 41,635 blood donors from the start of the year to August 18, 2020

About 3,195 sets of platelet apheresis and 104 double mobile red-blooded donations were collected, according to senior DHA officials.

In total, 42,493 blood sets were delivered in the same period, of which 26,959 blood sets were distributed to DHA hospitals and 15,534 to personal hospitals in Dubai, while 3,973 platelet sets and 8,529 plasma sets were delivered to public and personal hospitals.

The center also played a vital role in collecting convalescent plasma from recovered COVID-19 patients, where 195 plasma donors effectively donated the pandemic.

In order to comply with social estrangement protocols, a blood donation tent was installed to collect blood from donors.Farida Al Khaja, executive director of the Dha Nursing and Clinical Support Sector, said: “The tent can safely treat 70 to 250 donors per day.The center has a giant waiting room and a snack area after donation.Supplied with 12 beds and fashionable medical equipment.It also has a non-public disinfection tunnel, a thermal imaging camera and follows a common policy of cleaning beds and surfaces.after every donor, ” said Dr. Al Khaja.

Al Khaja added that new blood donation situations put the pandemic in position.

“The Center constantly strives to ensure a sufficiently good source of blood for patients in need by implementing more productive practices for the protection of blood transfusions.Because of the coronavirus pandemic, we have put new blood donation situations in position, which come with the postponement of other people from abroad donating blood for two weeks to ensure the protection of donors and blood recipients,” Dr. Al Khaja said.

Dr. Hussain Al Samt, director of the Department of Pathology and Genetics, said the Dubai Blood Donation Center, which is the only blood donation center in Dubai, supplies about 50% of the total blood collected in the country.

He added that the center provided the addition of general blood collection and double donation of red blood, platelet apheresis, medical recommendation for blood donors with infectious diseases and convalescent plasma of patients with recovered COVID-19. The centre is the first AABB accredited blood donation centre in the United Arab Emirates and DHA is committed to ensuring the quality and protection of blood transfusions.

Dr Mai Raouf, director of the Dubai Blood Donation Center, added that the center had extended its operating hours to accommodate clients’ wishes from 7 a.m. at 8:30 p.m., Sunday through Thursday. To meet clients’ wishes as well, Dr. Raouf stated that the Center had added more parking for blood donors; 20 car parks for the happiness and satisfaction of the visitor.

“We greatly appreciate the charitable contributions of voluntary blood donors who continue to donate blood and even during the pandemic,” Dr. Raouf concluded.
