More than 1. 1 million sacrilegious blocked – PTA

On Thursday, the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) informed the Peshawar High Court (PHC) that it had blocked more than 1. 1 million pages on social media platforms due to sacrilegious content.

The country’s telecoms regulator said it will permanently block those sites and remove objectionable content from popular forums such as Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

A court in the CHP department, composed of Judge HM Attique Shah and Judge Syed Arshad Ali, has resumed hearing a petition filed through citizen Sarah Ali Khan, for the removal and blocking of blasphemous content on the Internet.

The petitioner argued that the content available on Facebook, X, Instagram, and other social media platforms not only goes against Islamic values, but also has a negative effect on social norms by corrupting young people.

He noted that the PTA has not devised any mechanism to block such content and advised the court to order the authority to block such curtains completely and that the content be leaked at the time of uploading. He advised that an expert should be hired for that purpose. .

The PTA’s lawyer informed the court that the authority had shut down more than 1. 1 million sites and links containing this content.

However, he clarified that since access to those platforms is received by various means, adding VPNs, it is not imaginable to block them completely.

It further stated that the content denounced by the petitioner is not only contrary to Pakistani law, but also to the country’s traditions, and that it simply cannot be tolerated. He trusted the court that once such elements are detected, they will be temporarily suspended. eliminated, even if it takes time.

The attorney admitted that the PTA does not have a mechanism to remove this type of content before it is uploaded, but efforts are being made to fix the problem.

Responding to a question from a judge, the lawyer explained that content found on social media can only be removed once it has been uploaded. He talked about the existing disposal procedure and said that thousands of such parts are removed daily.

The PTA’s lawyer informed the court that according to the law, the petitioner will have to file a complaint with the authority, which will then take immediate action. The court then ruled on the case and will subsequently issue a written order.
