More than 700 migrants on four other boats have been rescued off the coast of Spain’s Canary Islands, the Spanish government said Saturday.
On board a boat were another 247 people, 238 on the boat and 254 on the other two, according to a message published on Saturday on “X”, former Twitter, through the official account of the Canary Islands emergency services.
Of those on board, two other people died when they were discovered and two others died at a hospital, while 12 others are being treated in hospitals, officials said.
On Thursday, Spain’s Interior Ministry said 30,075 migrants arrived in the Canary Islands by sea between Jan. 1 and Oct. 31, more than double the number who arrived at the same time in 2022.
The archipelago of the Canary Islands is located off the western coast of Morocco.
