Montreal half marathon continues, with COVID-19 security measures implemented

Louise Desmara is one of them. He spent the last month getting ready to run the five-kilometre race. After recovering from surgery this winter, he said it was smart to put on his running shoes.

“I was excited this morning when I was given up,” Desmarais said. “It’s the right environment and it’s a wonderful joy to participate in a career.”

The runners had a distance of two meters and had a maximum time to complete their race, depending on the distance.

When the runners crossed the baseline, they also had to leave the site without delay for the formation of rallies.

“We don’t have podiums or awards ceremonies. We’re offering them a bagel and cream cheese and they’re invited to leave the site,” said Paul Brunet, president of We Run Montreal.

“But there is that camaraderie that is found in the races.”

Brunet says he expects to have some other career in October and says he intends to run for the annual Montreal Marathon next year. This year’s race was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Olympic runner Charles Philibert-Thiboutot also took part in Saturday’s 10-kilometre race. He said he took the opportunity to train. The 1500-meter specialist won his career in 31 minutes.

He said the race helped him get back to normal.

“You’re locating some of the sensations you might have in a career,” Philibert-Thiboutot said.

“You may have butterflies in your abdomen as in a general race, but without the crowd and the great group of runners … It’s a short, fun race.
