Molex has opened a campus in Katowice, Poland.
“The facility’s initial production of 23,000 m2 will serve as a strategic central location to facilitate the delivery of medical devices for [Molex-owned] Phillips-Medisize, as well as electric vehicles and electrification solutions,” according to Molex, which claims to have invested $110 million so far: “Future expansion of up to 85,000 m2 is planned in the facility’s expansion plans, which will be in addition to the existing [Polish] facilities in Rokitki and Sulęcin. »
Capabilities will include medical device assembly, packaging, drug handling, and injection molding, as well as battery connectors and high-power busbars that will be manufactured for the other markets mentioned.
“The large number of qualified production and engineering resources in the Katowice region was a critical factor influencing Molex’s selection of the site location,” he said. “In addition to the planned capacity, the initial campus facility will employ approximately 350 employees, adding professional production operators, design engineers and quality specialists. »
The campus will be the first from Molex and Phillips-Medisize to hold LEED Gold sustainability certification, the second of four. ISO 13485 certification is pending completion of the structure, and more certifications and registrations will follow, Molex added.
The company also has Phillips-Medisize operations in Donegal (Ireland), Sligo (Ireland), Struer (Denmark), Trhove Sviny (Czech Republic) and two plants in Kontiolahti (Finland).
Other Koch corporations in Poland include Guardian Glass, SRG Global, Infor and Koch Business Solutions, which together employ more than 2,000 people.
