Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, a scion of one of India’s most important political families, returned in full force to those elections after an embarrassing defeat for the seat representing the city of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh in 2019.
This time, Gandhi won two seats: Wayanad district in Kerala and Rae Bareli district in Uttar Pradesh.
By-elections will be held for the position he rejects.
“Thank you to the people of Wayanad and Rae Bareli for everything you have given me,” he said in a message in X, adding that he would like to be able to constitute any of the districts.

Congress managed to win a single seat in the western state after a decade. The BJP won the state in the 2014 and 2019 elections.
The BJP has ruled the state since 1995. Modi was the state’s leading minister for more than a decade before becoming prime minister in 2014.

India’s money capital has six seats in the Lok Sabha, and in 2019, the BJP and its allies won all six.
As in many other parts of India, 2024 has produced a very different outcome: Congress and its allies lead with four seats, the BJP and its partners lead with two, and almost all votes are counted.
