Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) makes Senate history Tuesday at noon, claiming the Senate leader’s name as the longest-serving leader.
The record was held by Sen. Mike Mansfield (D-MT), who was the leader of the Democrats from 1961 to 1977. McConnell became Senate leader in 2006. In commemoration of the guy he’s about to defeat, McConnell is scheduled to give a speech about Mansfield’s legacy on Tuesday. The speech will be a brief review of the Montana senator’s career, before cataloging the male leadership styles of Senate leaders.

“Then there were leaders who came to the position through low-key styles and behind the scenes; who liked to focus on serving their colleagues rather than dominating them,” the speech said.
McConnell sent out a list of his accomplishments, showing how the Kentucky Republican views his legacy. Tax reform, avoiding the closure of Guantanamo Bay, protecting from the rise of Iraq, helping to shape the U. S. reaction to the U. S. The U. S. government’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, protecting against systematic obstruction and supporting anti-junta forces in Burma are the most common on its list of achievements.
In particular, his reaction to the Jan. 6 insurrection also figures prominently in his accomplishments, adding data revealed through the Jan. 6 committee, which found McConnell was handling the scenes by seeking to get all Republicans to vote to certify the election. He also reiterated his earlier quote that his vote to certify electoral effects was “the maximum vital vote I have ever cast. “
McConnell has been bombarded with internal and external complaints from the Republican Party during his long tenure, namely from the Trumpist wing of the Republican Party in recent years. He has earned the ire of former President Donald Trump since the latter left office. largely because of their perceived disloyalty. Trump recently blamed McConnell for Republican midterm losses and has called for the Kentucky Republican to conduct impeachment.

McConnell recently ran against Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL), who challenged him for Senate leadership in November. Some Republicans were also outraged through McConnell over the recent omnibus spending bill.
