Ministry of Tourism to expand Mughsail Beach: Oman

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, in cooperation with Omran, will expand Salalah’s famous Mughsail Beach to attract more tourists.

Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, in cooperation with Omran, will expand Salalah’s celebrated Mughsail Beach as part of its efforts to expand tourist sites and attract visitors from around the world.

Khalid Abdullah al-Abri, Director General of the Dhofar Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism, reported that it is part of several upcoming tourism projects that aim to make Dhofar Governorate a sustainable tourist destination for the year.

The assignment will be developed in two phases. Phase 1 will come with the structure of car parks, a position to organize events and activities, food kiosks, restaurants, a walkway that extends to the beach, gardens and shadows. Phase 2 will be about water sports, an adventure park and games for children,” Abri said.

One of Dhofar’s most popular attractions, Mughsail Beach, is noted for its vents. Seawater runs through a high-pressure underground channel and sprouts from a geyser-like peak, emerging several meters high.

Kharif Season

In preparation for the khareef season, which officially begins on June 21 and ends on September 21, the Dhofar Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism recently held an assembly with tourism partners from the public and sectors.

Rawas Hafeez al Rawas, Deputy General Manager of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar, reported that promotional campaigns for the tourist season will be implemented in cooperation with airline offices and hotels. She stated that the hotel infrastructure and heritage sites are able to attract tourists.

“Lately we are working with airlines and hotels to launch a joint promotional crusade the 3 months of the khareef season,” he added.

According to Rawas, the ministry is selling the season by broadcasting special reports about Dhofar through TV shows, as well as hiring Arab and Gulf influencers to publicize the destination on social media.

Dhofar will also soon see the final touch of the progression of the Al Hafa promenade, a tourist and recreational landmark in Salalah. The first phase of the task includes the opening of a promenade and restaurants (several foreign brands) and the limited operation of a classic market.
