On Thursday, the fitness ministry wrote letters to Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka, noting that parts of the country had noticed a spike in cases.

“There are some states reporting a higher number of cases indicating a imaginable localized spread of infection,” Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan wrote.

He called on those states to review the COVID-19 scenario at the micro point and in the implementation of mandatory measures for the immediate and effective control of the disease.
