ISTANBUL
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said Tuesday that the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean are hardest hit by climate change.
“The past few years have been marked by serious weather events in the Middle East and eastern Mediterranean, from wildfires to floods and torrential rains that have caused massive monetary losses,” al-Sisi said at the UN COP27 weather summit at the Egyptian hotel in the city of Sharm el-Sheikh.
“Voluntary projects to mobilize efforts to fight climate change have become one of the most vital mechanisms of global climate action,” he said.
Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades, for his part, said his management was committed to supporting efforts to tackle climate change.
“The fear of climate problems and their harmful effects provides wonderful evidence of the world’s interest in this issue,” he said at the global event.
Egypt is recently COP27, with more than a hundred leaders and heads of state attending the global event to talk about tactics to reduce the negative effects of climate change and adapt to its effects.
