LISBON, Portugal (AP) — Ukraine is counting on more Western technology as its war with Russia drags on, and Microsoft pledged Thursday to extinguish its technology for Kyiv’s “extraordinary” wartime innovation until the end of next year.
Microsoft’s monetary commitment of more than $400 million allows the Ukrainian government and other organizations to continue Microsoft’s cloud and public knowledge centers across Europe, corporate chairman Brad Smith announced at the annual Web Summit generation convention in Lisbon, Portugal.
Cloud generation brings resilience and security to Ukrainian operations, Smith said, after Russia attacked Ukrainian knowledge centers with airstrikes in its invasion more than 8 months ago.
The invasion triggered an “extraordinary innovation” in the Ukrainian military, Smith said.
Ukraine and Russia are waging “a new kind of war,” with cyber weapons and other virtual technologies playing a central role, he said.
Synthetic intelligence deployed through Kyiv, for example, detects and disrupts Russian cyberattacks “in the blink of an eye,” according to Smith.
Microsoft is also working with the U. S. military. In the U. S. in artificial intelligence and symbol recognition.
Ukraine and Russia are engaged in “a technological war,” according to Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation.
Fedorov, who appeared with Smith at a news conference, noted that Delta’s real-time combat control formula evolved across Ukraine. The situational awareness platform integrates enemy data from sensors and sources, adding AI and drones, into a virtual map.
