Michigan Opens Dozens of Loose COVID-19 Sites Across State

Walgreens has expanded its COVID-19 testing operations to 36 sites across the state, news reports said.

Testing at Walgreens sites can be done by appointment only and is provided through the pharmacy’s existing self-service lanes. When patients arrive, pharmacy staff advise them through self-administration of a COVID-19 test. To schedule an appointment, stop at Walgreens. com/COVID19Testing.

Michigan is also expanding its partnership with the Michigan Primary Care Association, the state’s arrangement of federally chartered fitness centers. These centers already offer inexpensive COVID-19 testing and those new efforts will ensure patients don’t have to pay testing costs. in 47 sites. The centers serve low-income or socially vulnerable areas.

MDHHS has already introduced 20 loose community sites, which continue to operate in Albion, Benton Harbor, Detroit, Ecorse, Flint, Grayling, Lansing, Niles, Roseville, Saginaw and Wayne.

Federal law requires personal insurance, Medicare and Medicaid to cover medically mandated COVID-19 testing at no out-of-pocket costs for patients. However, some tests may not be medically mandated through insurers, such as screening for asymptomatic people. Free testing sites can still collect data about the patient’s insurance and try to bill the insurance first. Costs not covered through insurance will be covered through the State. Patients will not be guilty of those charges.
