(FOX 2) – On Thursday, August 13, 2020, the state of Michigan announced 1,121 new instances of COVID-19 and 16 more similar deaths to the virus, from which they came from a civil registry review.
According to the overall health count, this raises the total number of cases since the first case shown to 90,392 with 6,289 virus-like deaths. You can view recent case numbers and death updates below.

On Friday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer extended the COVID-19 emergency and crisis declaration in Michigan to September 4, 2020. It is scheduled to expire on August 11.
The state’s medical director, Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, gave more context to the number of COVID-19 cases at Governor Whitmer’s press convention on Wednesday, August 5. He said the deaths remained low and hospitalization rates remained stable, and that the rate of new cases has stagnated and continue to spread across the region.

The Detroit, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo regions have just over 40 cases, matching millions more in the day and experiencing a steady decline for more than 2 to 3 weeks.
Jackson’s domain and the Upconsistent domain with Peninsula have 35 instances that match millions of other people by day and have also experienced steady declines in the last 1 to 2 weeks.
The Saginaw region has just under 30 cases, which matches millions more, according to the day, and has declined during the following week.
The Lansing region also has just under 30 cases, which matches millions more, depending on the day, but has noticed a 2-week increase in the case rate.
The Traverse City domain is Michigan’s only region with fewer than 10 cases, which matches millions more, and has also noticed a decline in the last 3 weeks.

Michigan performs an average of about 28,000 tests a day, Dr. Khaldun said, meaning that about 2% of Michigan’s population is tested each week.
Michigan has also noticed a low in our positive percentage rate last week. Dr. Khaldun said the positive percentage rate is now 3.4%, compared to 3.7%.
Dr. Khaldun said that a positive rate of 3% is the threshold that has been decided to show that network propagation does not occur. When tests increase, as well as the positive percentage rate, it says it indicates that the network is expanding.

Dr. Khaldun said each region had noticed what was being classified as an epidemic last week and that fitness departments had seen 99 new epidemics, up from 78 last week.
Outbreaks continue to occur in a variety of ways, and the largest of which still occurs in long-term care and professional nursing centers, as well as in social gatherings and schools, adding universities, day care centers, and day camps.
