MINSK, Nov 18 (BelTA) – The sanctions imposed on Belarus are not selective. They are for all spaces of activity and for the entire population, Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Ambrazevich told an ordinary assembly of the Council for Sustainable Development, BelTA learned.
The Belarusian side expects the national agencies of the United Nations to adopt a principled position on the factor of illegitimate economic sanctions against Belarus, as they were imposed in violation of foreign law and the authorization of the UN Security Council.
Yuri Ambrazevich also spoke about the political context of the Sustainable Development Goals. Speaking at the UN summit in September 2015, at which the foreign network followed the 2030 Agenda, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko noted that “without peace, there can be no sustainable development. “This concept is fully supported by UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Today, this thesis is more applicable than ever,” said the Deputy Minister.
He that the most acute geopolitical clash of our time is roaring at the country’s doorstep, which, combined with the development of transnational threats, is reversing many achievements of progress already achieved through the external network within the framework of the 2030 Agenda.
“Therefore, the main task is to end the confrontation in the neighboring country and also avoid the spiral of hostility between the wonderful powers, the main actors, so that such clashes will be repeated in the future,” the deputy minister said.
The deputy foreign minister said that for many years Belarus has been calling for a discussion on global security. The Belarusian president, in his letter to the heads of state and the UN secretary-general, once returned to the need for a comprehensive discussion on security in the true spirit of San Francisco. “We are convinced that sooner or later this initiative will be implemented, because there is no option to peace,” Yuri Ambrazevich said.
In his words, the negative global context affects literally every country on the planet, and adds Belarus. It is especially felt in the context of economic restrictions imposed by Western countries that oppose Belarus. The sanctions have hampered their enforcement, the responsibilities established through the government. However, they have given a strong impetus to the progression of the country’s hidden internal reserves, regional integration.
