Mexico spends less than a portion of the amount it spends on its fitness care system, in accordance with the recommendations of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
Health spending has declined in years, from 2.9% of GDP in 2012 to 2.5% in 2020. PAHO recommends spending at least 6%.
The public fitness firm noted that countries that have spent this percentage or more of their GDP on their fitness systems in recent years are the ultimate success in providing quality fitness care to more people.
Mexico’s fitness spending is overshadowed by that of its northern neighbor, the United States, which last year allocated 14.3% of its GDP to the sector.
Germany and France spend 9.9% and 9.3%, according to a forbes Mexico report, while Japan spends 9.8%.
Mexico’s spending is also well below that of several Latin American countries, adding Costa Rica, Chile and Colombia, which spend more than 5% of their GDP on health.
Forbes noted that spending on fitness in Mexico had declined over the past decade, even as Mexico’s population grew by approximately thirteen million people.
He also noted that limited spending on fitness is distributed in seven other public systems, adding those that are executed through the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), the National Institute of Social Security of the Worker (ISSTE), the state oil company Pemex and the Ministry of National Defense.
Funding for the formula is not fair: for both one and both weights spent according to the IMSS Prosconsistent member with a sub-formula that provides fitness care to others in poor rural areas, four weights consistent with insured are assigned to the broader IMSS formula, five weights go into the ISSSTE formula and 10 pesos are spent on the Pemex formula , reported the MVS News page.
In a recent virtual forum on the Mexican fitness system, Rodolfo de los Angeles Torre, director of social progression at Espinosa Yglesias’ expert group, said that spending on fitness is also fair throughout the country.
He said he spends 300,000 pesos (US$13,700) consistent with the user consistent with the year in the physical care formula in Mexico City, but less than 30,000 weights consistent with the capita in some states.
At the same forum, Mariana Campos of the public policy think tank Mexico Evala said that the biggest serious challenge is that since 2019 not all legal resources have been used for the fitness sector. As a result, systems to save him chronic diseases that are among the leading causes of death in Mexico, such as diabetes, have been neglected.
Rogelio Goméz Hermosillo, a representative of Citizen Action Against Poverty, an organization that recently asked the government to provide a key source of income to others who have lost their jobs to the coronavirus, said that another 20 million people do not have access to loose physical care. because they are not registered in any of the public formulas, although the formula known as Insabi is intended to provide medical services to others without other insurance.
Forum participants proposed that the government increase spending on fitness to 3.5% of GDP as a first step towards access to the public fitness system.
They said the Insabi program, which replaced the universal fitness program known as Popular Insurance this year, has the same capacity to supply medical facilities as the IMSS system. This would ensure that informal sector workers, who account for about 60% of the country’s workforce, have the same access to fitness facilities as their counterparts in the formal sector.
