A coronavirus center was opened at the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles to provide greater service to Latinos, who have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic.
“I know there’s a lot of desires here,” Solis said at a news convention wednesday morning. “Numbers don’t lie.”
At the Romero Clinic, which serves the predominantly Latin American regions of Boyle Heights, Pico-Union and Westlake, between 30% and 40% of those who are tested for COVID-19 positive, said the clinic’s executive director, Carlos Vaquerano. .
In Westlake, another 2081 people tested positive for COVID-19. At Pico-Union, more than 1,500 tested positive.
“The numbers are alarming, ” said Vaquerano.
The Consul General of Mexico, Marcela Celorio, under pressure that the consulate was an area for the Latin American network and that anyone, regardless of their immigration prestige or whether they had physical fitness insurance or not, can simply gain advantages from loose tests in the Mancha.
Celorio and Solís appealed to key latin American staff and those in the country illegally, urging them to practice social estrangement, to wear mask and choir from the circle of relatives visiting the pandemic.
“Having COVID-19 is nothing to be ashamed of,” Celorio said. “This can happen and you have to ask for help. It doesn’t matter if you’re documented or not.”
“No one will discriminate against you if you don’t have citizenship. The other people in this region accept as true with the other people who are going to do this, and they would probably not feel intimidated [or] they would be told they can’t get tested,” Solis said.
Solís said he expected the site to continue to operate until December, or as long as the investment remained available. Translation will be available for those who speak Zapotec, Quiché and other languages.
Solís also recently announced the opening of new sites in other vulnerable areas, adding Huntington Park and Azusa, as well as a medical clinic in Bell for southeastern Los Angeles County citizens.
