Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Krekorian issued a Wednesday condemning Azerbaijan’s aggression against Armenia.
Below is the statement.
This week, Azerbaijan again attacked its Armenian neighbors, bombing civilians and infrastructure on Armenia’s internal borders. More than a hundred Armenians were killed in this new circular of Azeri attacks. And back, the EE. UU. no government had a significant response, leaving Azerbaijan’s trend of aggression unprovoked. and uncontrolled violent land grabbing.
All Americans and all those who care about peace and stability in the world will have to unambiguously denounce Azerbaijan’s new aggression. I call on the president and all members of Congress to take meaningful punitive measures against the Azeri regime to govern once and for all. for its violent expansionism.
Two years ago, azerbaijan’s opportunistic dictator invaded the Republic of Artsakh and violated Armenia’s sovereign territory, amid the global pandemic. This Azeri aggression resulted in thousands of deaths, the illegal occupation of the territory by the army and the capture of Armenian prisoners, some of whom are still hostages in Azerbaijan to this day. Azerbaijan has committed countless war crimes and used weapons banned around the world, adding cluster bombs and chemical weapons, in opposition to civilian targets. In response, the maximum of global yawns.
Failing completely to respond to aggression beyond Azerbaijan, the United States and the rest of the world invited Azeri dictator Aliyev to take the territory of his selection through the violent means of his selection. it has allowed one of the world’s most tyrannical and corrupt kleptocracies to endanger regional stability, usurp democratic self-determination, violate foreign laws and norms, and pursue Aliyev’s racist dream of completing the Armenian genocide.
Azerbaijan has a long history of destroying Armenian cultural heritage, churches, cemeteries and monuments in the territory it occupies. Azerbaijan’s transparent purpose is to dedicate cultural genocide and erase the ancient history of the Indigenous Armenian people. He perpetrated such crimes by invading Artsakh in 2020, and through his existing attacks threatens to achieve the unabashedly expressed purpose of dictator Aliyev to invade, occupy and erase Armenia itself.
The government of the EE. UU. no can make a credible call for peace while offering Azerbaijan the means to pay for the war. The United States and all other democracies will have to stop Armenia in its present danger and suspend without delay all military and economic aid to Azerbaijan. And finally, the United States and all nations that respect democracy and self-determination must bestow full diplomatic popularity on the heroic other peoples of the Republic of Artsakh.
