Maskedistas and remote models, D-G launches COVID-era show

MILAN, July 14 (Reuters) – No aerial kisses, an early row and a face mask are of rigor. Dolce and Gabbana rewrote the regulations of the high-end fashion commitment with one of COVID’s first physical shows: the 19th.

As a component of Milan’s virtual men’s fashion week, Wednesday’s exhibition will be seen through a small organization of visitors dressed in a face mask as models parade on the catwalk a metre away.

It is held on the Humanitas Research Foundation campus, which involves expanding a vaccine against the new coronavirus, an assignment funded through Dolce and Gabbana.

“We need to give a positive message, a message of rebirth: it is possible to start over, respecting the security measures,” said Giulia Piacentini, the brand’s spokesman.

Along with the Italian logo, Etro, which will also present a physical exhibition with visitors on Wednesday, Dolce and Gabbana will be the first real-world fashion occasion organized through a primary luxury logo since the rest of the blocking restrictions in much of Europe.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has forced luxury homes to close their retail outlets and inactivate production sites, brands have canceled occasions or opted for virtual formats that only lack audiences, such as the Haute Couture show in Paris earlier this month.

The global goal of French fashion is to return to fashionable physical exhibitions in September.

The exhibition on Wednesday Dolce and Gabbana Spring / Summer 2021 in Rozzano, south of Milan, will bring together about two hundred Italian and foreign guests, adding buyers, consumers and media.

Staff, models and visitors have received protective orders and must comply with social distance rules. The masks will be mandatory in the scenes and for the audience, although Dolce and Gabbana have not revealed whether the models will wear a potentially elegant mask on the catwalk.

Piacentini said the program was intended for studies on Humanitas ‘COVID-19. The program’s sponsors have donated cash to the task and visitors will also be encouraged to contribute. (Reporting through Silvia Aloisi; edited through Carmel Crimmins and Barbara Lewis)
