In an interview with podcaster Joe Rogan, Mark Zuckerberg claimed that Biden officials called Meta executives to “yell at” and “swear at them,” ordering them to remove negative Facebook posts about the coronavirus vaccine. “It was brutal,” Zuckerberg said in his ‘Joe Rogan Experience’ interview. “The United States government deserves to protect its companies, not be at the forefront of attacking its companies. ”
Zuckerberg also said Biden’s aides demanded that Meta remove messages that claimed the vaccines could simply have side effects. “Basically, we got to this point [where we told them], ‘No, we’re not going to remove this thing that was true,'” Zuckerberg said.
Zuckerberg told Rogan at the beginning of the verbal exchange that he was “pretty supportive of the vaccine rollout” and that they were “more positive than negative. ” “But I think at the same time they’ve sought to publicize this agenda, they’ve also tried to censor anyone who opposes it,” he said.
This is not the first time Zuckerberg has made such accusations against Biden’s leadership. In August, he wrote in a letter to the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee, saying management had “pressured” Meta to “censor” Covid-19 content. He added that he arrived at some of the decisions he made as a result of those requests.
Reiterating his claims, Zuckerberg told Rogan, “And we were put under a lot of pressure to remove things that were honestly true. They took us in and said, you know, anything that says vaccines can have side effects, you have to eliminate it.
The Meta boss also praised Donald Trump, saying the president-elect “just wants America to win.” Among various large companies, Meta, too, announced that it was contributing $1 million to Trump’s inauguration
Meanwhile, Meta said it is replacing its fact-checking with a “community notes” system, where it depends on users to correct misinformation being shared on the platform. X works in a similar way.
Biden addressed the replacement policy at a press conference on Friday, Jan. 10, saying, according to CNBC, “The concept that a billionaire can buy anything and say, by the way, that from this point on, we’re not going to move on to doing that. “. Check anything and, you know, when millions of people go through the internet and read this stuff, it’s. . . Anyway, I think it’s really embarrassing.
