CHICAGO (AP) – From Kolten Wong’s first eight-body walk in the first game to Andrew Miller’s stop at each end, the St. Louis Cardinals’ long-awaited return from a coronavirus outbreak was a resounding success.

Paul Goldschmidt and Tyler O’Neill hit a home run, and St. Louis beat the Chicago White Sox 6-3 on Saturday in an exciting double sweep for the protector champions of the National League Central Division.

Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert scored for Chicago in Game 2, but the White Sox had six hits that day. Lucas Giolito (1-2) allowed five runs, 4 earned runs and six hits in five innings in the first game.
“We just couldn’t do much,” manager Rick Rentería said. “Few guys on base, some hits. There’s not enough offense.
Wainwright (2-0) also recorded the team’s last win, beating Pittsburgh 9-1 on July 25. The Cardinals fell three times in a row before an outbreak of coronavirus shook their list and training staff, leaving them inactive for weeks and resulting in 18 showed instances in the organization.
Wainwright, who will turn 39 on August 30, a selection of herbs for his first home game, and did not look rusty at all. The right allowed one run and two hits, struck out 3 and walked to 3 at the start of the year.

The Cardinals were almost given another run in the first, but Fowler shot the house when he tried to score with a Harrison Bader hit.
Giolito has been on the line lately, with a 1-0 mark with 1.89 MPM in its last 3 starts.
“He stepped forward after the first race, but he has to be older in the first,” Giolito said. “I can’t get in a hole there.”

Cardinals: LHP Austin Gomber has been placed on the disabled list. Gomber has tested positive for COVID-19, but has emerged as a possible fear in contact-seeking.
