Manila: The Philippine capital blocked two villages and two hotels on Thursday and police renewed their warnings against kisses and “public expressions of affection” after a new outbreak of coronavirus infections.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno said police would not allow others to enter and leave their homes and that the two hotels would be closed for three days and that offenders would be forced to stay for 40 to 14 days. Isolated citizens would get boxes of food, medical personnel and other legal personnel would be exempt.
Other locations in the capital have re-imposed locks on several neighborhoods and longer nighttime curfews after detecting new infections.
The head of the national police, Debold Sinas, said the prohibition of “public presentations of affection,” such as taking hands and kissing, would be strictly enforced due to spikes in infection. The criminals would be warned, he said.
The government blamed public complacency a year after the start of the pandemic for the outbreak of COVID-19 cases, especially in the city of Manila.
The Ministry of Health reported more than 603,000 cases of COVID-19, with 12,545 deaths. Totals are the time in Southeast Asia after Indonesia.
