One guy was accused of allegedly casting a deception in March at a nursing home at the center of one of the COVID-19 outbreaks in British Columbia.
Lynn Valley Care Center officials in North Vancouver, BC, said they won a call in the early hours of March 8, the day the center recorded the first COVID-19-related death in Canada, from a claim to be a fitness worker. .
The appellant reportedly exaggerated the number of others who testified positive at the center and stated that the facility had to close.
The appellant also warned citizens and staff where they did not leave, and stated that the next shift of staff members will not enter.
The media said the call had created “unnecessary fear” for residents, their families and staff, and had diverted time and resources from patient care.
Officials learned the day after the call was a hoax.
Taymour Aghtai accused last Friday of a charge for transmitting a false message with the aim of alarming.
