Malaysia is in no hurry for COVID-19 vaccine

PUTRAJAYA, 3 September – Malaysia is in no hurry to receive the COVID-19 vaccine because it is of paramount importance to ensure that the vaccine is effective and used, said Health Minister Datuk Seri, Dr Adham Baba.

For now, he said the government is still waiting for vaccine-producing countries to conduct three-phase clinical trials, the latter of which is a human test.

“We are waiting for countries to conduct Array clinical trials.China has started in the United Arab Emirates and Brazil.

“Russia does not have the 3rd phase of clinical trials,” he said, when asked about reports that some countries have begun negotiations to acquire the vaccine.

In statements to journalists after the launch of the World Food Safety Day 2020 birthday party here today, Dr. Adham said the Ministry of Health is still in contact with vaccine-producing countries.

During the selection of public procurement for COVID-19, he said the ministry had made a selection of 464 markets across the country with 36,919 samples taken.

“Of this total, 287 (0.87%) were tested for COVID-19,” he said, adding that public procurement inspections would be conducted on an ongoing basis.
