Lukashenko stresses the importance of seed production for Belarus

SMOLEVICHI DISTRICT, Aug 16 (BelTA) – Seed production plays a very important role in the progress of the agricultural sector and the country in general, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on his stopover at the cultivation and seed complex of the Arable Scientific and Practical Center for Agriculture. of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) on August 16, BelTA learned.

The Head of State visited the wheat and legume fields and visited the production unit of the means of studies and practices for the progression of seed equipment.

The head of state hoped that Belarusian scientists can produce high-quality seeds comparable to those produced through foreign companies.

“This is also my feat. We have preserved agricultural science, and only in seed production. They are exclusive people! Or we have preserved and progressed it. It is more valuable than gold. People want to perceive that the bread they buy in the store starts with the scientists and those plots of land,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

The Scientific and Practical Center of Arable Agriculture of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus works on the variety of 38 types of agricultural plants, producing original seeds of about 140 types. In 2021, some 176 types of crops were produced in between. cultivated in the fields of the country. They occupied more than 80% of the sown domain, while domestic varieties of winter rye, oats, fodder barley, buckwheat, spring wheat and lupine occupied more than 90% of the domain. All registered classes of the environment compete effectively with foreign ones and have superior yields and product quality: more than one hundred cents per hectare in cereals, 60 cents per hectare in rapeseed, up to 50 cents per hectare in legumes.
