The highest points applicable in the research of the 2019/2020 season in Chile were drought, the COVID-19 pandemic, social demonstrations and other disorders typical of the table grape industry.
Apart from the mega-drought that affects the country for more than 10 years, the table grape has been affected by minimizing profitability in recent campaigns which has caused significant structural adjustments in this species; basically a minimum in the planted domain and the varietal replacement.
According to a casual survey conducted directly among manufacturers in other regions during the season, Chile is estimated to have no more than 37,000 hectares of table grapes (10% less than the most recent official knowledge). According to Odepa’s knowledge for 2017, the domain for the table the grape reached 47,101 hectares planted, already 8.4% lower than in 2008.This downward trend is higher in recent seasons, basically due to the lack of precipitation and conversion in some spaces to other species that are expected to be more profitable.
