A few weeks ago, Long John Silver’s concluded its Franchise Association Conference, organized for franchisees and logo partners. What else this time than for the first time, among the same old delegate tables, there is a “foreign table” made up of several new foreign franchisees and an entire table occupied by master franchise owners of the Singapore, Indonesian, Malaysian and Thailand logo. Although there is only one table this year, it is a testament and the culmination of the logo’s efforts to continually update and renew itself. and grow the logo internally in the U. S. and overseas, and Long John Silver’s commitment to continue moving toward overseas expansion around the world.
Founded in 1969, LJS operated in the United States until 1983, when the logo expanded to Singapore. Since then, the logo has basically operated in both countries for about four decades. Then, in 2019, the new LJS management, as part of its efforts to update the logo, to include additional foreign expansion in its new expansion plan.
Indonesia was the first country to sign the master franchise in 2021, paving the way for this new plan. However, this allocation had to be delayed for a few years due to COVID-19. In May 2023, once COVID-19 left the In this way, Indonesia opened its first store and the expansion plan was back on track. In September and November 2023, LJS signed two major franchise agreements with Thailand and Malaysia respectively, bringing LJS’s presence from 2 countries in 2022 to five through 2024.
Overall, 2023 has been a good year for LJS. Not to be outdone by the good news on the international front, the domestic market in the US continues to deliver stellar results. This is recently shown when two of their newest rebuilt stores in Flint, MI and Temple, TX achieved record sales, including the highest volume week ever achieved by an LJS outlet. This once again shows that under the stewardship of the new management and owner, the brand is slowly but surely righting its ship.
