Thousands of euros are being spent across the state and patients themselves to get long Covid tests done when sharing data would be most effective, the Oireachtas Health Committee heard.
Long Covid basically affects the brain, as hearts and lungs have been found to repair themselves, Professor Jack Lambert told the Oireachtas Health Committee.
This has led to as many as one in five Long Covid patients suffering from anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder as they recover among other hospitals and GPs without a coherent national established, the committee heard.
Thousands of euros are spent across the state and patients themselves to get tested, while data collection would be more effective, he said.
Professor Jack Lambert, who treats Covid-19 and Long Covid patients at Dublin’s Mater Misericordiae Hospital, discovered patients with persistent cognitive disorders of “brain fog”, exhaustion, sleep disorders and mental disorders they didn’t have before.
