Neurotech company Parasym has developed a revolutionary neuromodulation device, Nurosym, that could ultimately bring hope for providing treatment to patients diagnosed with long COVID.
In an exclusive interview with The Express, Nathan Dundovic, co-founder of Parasym, explained, “Nurosym works by tapping an earbud into the left ear, aiming for a quick birth that travels through the vagus nerve to the brain and body.
“It’s helping to influence the nervous system.
“In the case of long COVID, especially in acute cases, there is a significant inflammatory response, which is very negative for the body and can have a lasting effect such as brain fog, depressive symptoms, etc.
“We can control those symptoms in a meaningful way. “

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, a staggering 87 percent of hospitalized COVID patients have reported lingering symptoms after recovery, a condition known as long COVID.
These lingering effects can range from debilitating fatigue to cognitive dysfunction, posing an ongoing challenge for both patients and healthcare professionals.
However, Parasym’s cutting-edge studies offer a prospective breakthrough in the treatment of long COVID symptoms.
This neurotechnology predates the pandemic, as it has frequently focused on situations that originate in the nervous system, such as cardiovascular disease and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Dundovic said: “We’ve seen very promising effects in this area, and when COVID hit, we found that those affected had symptoms, so it made sense to see that in other people diagnosed with long COVID. “
Following its launch, Parasym studied the effects of neuromodulation in collaboration with the Human Waves Clinic and the Free University of Brussels, which revealed a tendency of the virus to damage the vagus nerve, thereby altering its role in regulating the autonomic nervous system.
Clinical trials have shown promising results. In a study of patients with symptoms of chronic fatigue after COVID-19 infection, approximately 40% of participants had positive responses to Nurosym neuromodulation. These responses were characterized by innovations in fatigue, brain fog, and widespread pain, bringing new hope to those suffering with the relentless control of Long COVID.
“Patients used the device for one hour a day for 10 days,” Dundovic explained. “The main effect reported was a slight swelling or redness of the component of the ear where the earpiece is used, the swallow, if the device is used for a longer time. “what or if you ride it too high. Normally, the swelling stops when the device is removed, it doesn’t persist at all. “

Neuromodulation treatment is low-risk, the researchers say. Being a bioelectrical treatment, it is non-invasive, requiring no medication or surgery, and can be used in the comfort of your own home. It can also be used in conjunction with other treatment bureaucracy.
Looking ahead, Dundovic plans to expand Parasym and supply it to others diagnosed with Long COVID.
“There is a significant lack of functions for other people with long COVID, and a significant need for effective functions, especially for other people who are severely affected and cannot continue with their daily lives as before,” the co-founder said.
“Our project is to improve the quality of life of those affected. “
