Two London Knights will constitute Canada at this year’s World Junior Hockey Championship.
NHL first-round players Easton Cowan and Oliver Bonk are on the 22-player roster for the annual tournament to be held Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The team was decided after a four-day variety camp in Oakville that also included Knights leading scorer Denver Barkey.

Cowan, 18, is a local of Mount Brydges, the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 28th pick last June. He has 12 goals and 39 problems in 23 games for London this season.
Bonk, an 18-year-old ranked 22nd overall by the Flyers, has six goals and 30 goals in 28 games on London’s blue line this season. His father, Radek, played his career abroad for the country that is now called the Czech Republic.
Canada will open its pre-tournament schedule against Denmark’s U-25 team on Dec. 19 before facing Switzerland on Dec. 22 and the United States on Dec. 23. They will open the event on Boxing Day against Finland (8:30 a. m. )m. ).
Cowan and Bonk will remain eligible to compete at next year’s Junior Worlds, which will be held at Bonk’s in Ottawa.
TSN reports that Canada has left an open spot on the team in hopes that an eligible forward who has lately played in the NHL will be loaned to the foreign team. The list of applicants includes former Windsor Spitfires striker Shane Wright. If that doesn’t come to fruition, one of the forwards who were eliminated in camp would get the spot — a glimmer of hope for Barkey.
