Liverpool’s Champions League clash with RB Leipzig has descended into chaos with Premier League champions banned in Germany due to coronavirus restrictions.
Jurgen Klopp and his team will play the first leg of the knockout round at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig on February 16.
Germany has introduced strict regulations banning foreigners from entering spaces deemed high risk due to coronavirus mutations, such as the UK.
Air to Germany from those regions is banned until at least Feb. 17, a day after the scheduled start of the match.
The news came here as a big surprise in Germany. Earlier this week, the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) announced that the new restrictions would “initially not allow exceptions for professional athletes. “
On Thursday, the IMB showed that a Champions League adjustment would not give special authorization.
“The Federal Police has informed the settlement that the described constellation is included in the exceptional cases of the Crown Protection Ordinance,” the BMI told the Sports Information Service (SID).
UEFA has given Leipzig until Feb. 8 to organise a selection plan to allow the adjustment to take place.
It is possible, but unlikely, that the two teams will agree to change their home games, so the first leg on February 16 will be played at Anfield. The match is currently scheduled for March 10, which leaves more time for a solution or ease. Restrictions
However, it is highly unlikely that Liverpool will settle for this, as the club would not have to lose the merit of having the decisive moment at home.
The game can only be played in a neutral location in a country with less stringent coronavirus restrictions, with Russia and Hungary as possible destinations via German outlet Bild.
Points will be deducted, but if an acceptable plan is presented to UEFA until February 8, Liverpool will win 3-0.
If you factor the goals into the equation, it would give Klopp great credit at the current stage at Anfield.
Leipzig qualified for the semi-finals of last year’s tournament, and Liverpool were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Atletico Madrid shortly before England were blocked.
