LinkedIn cuts 960 jobs internationally amid COVID-19 pandemic

Professional networking site LinkedIn said Tuesday that it cut about 960 jobs worldwide, or about 6% of its global staff, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The company, a component of generation giant Microsoft, has about 1,200 workers in India. It also has a progression center in Bangalore.

When contacted, LinkedIn did not comment on the effect of task cuts on its operations in India.

«… We have made the incredibly complicated resolution of approximately 960 positions, or about 6% of our worker base, in our global sales and skills acquisition organizations (GSO and GTO) … those are the only layoffs we expect,” LinkedIn CEO Ryan Roslansky said in a note to workers.

He added that COVID-19 had a “sustainable impact” on procurement demand, either on the company’s control responses and on the company at large.

“At GSO and GTO, there are roles that are no longer, as we adapt to the reduction in demand in our internal recruitment and for our global capacity products,” he said.

Roslansky said affected workers in North America, Brazil and parts of the APAC (Asia-Pacific) region will be with the company until August 21, while affected workers in Dubai will be there until September 29.

The company has also begun consulting with painters in Ireland, the United Kingdom and Australia on possible role impacts, and the company will continue to paint on the procedure at the local level.

The senior executive said that workers running in France, Sweden and Spain would receive more information about the proposal that has an effect on roles in August, and that workers in Italy will hear about the effects proposed in September.

LinkedIn said it would provide at least 10 weeks of severance pay and that its global immigration team would provide personalized visas for those on company-sponsored visas.

The executive said the company would rent for newly created stalls and paintings with interested painters to explore the opportunities.
