LIMA – Judge Terri Kohlrieser of the Allen County Joint Court of Appeals has closed her courtroom for the next two weeks and undergoes a 14-day auto-40 after being exposed to coronavirus.

News of Kohlrieser’s absence was temporarily broadcast at allen County Courthouse on Monday morning. After a personal meeting with Kohlrieser, Presiding Judge Jeffrey Reed held an impromptu media availability session.

“Judge Kohlrieser informed us that she had been exposed to a user who tested positive for COVID-19 and had lately between 40 and 14 days. As a precautionary measure, he suspended all activities in the courtroom for the time being and let his staff (go home),” Reed said.

Reed said his own courtroom would continue to operate with the restrictions that have been in place for several months.

“I will continue the legal procedures in my room as productively as I can,” he said. “We may have to impose more restrictions on others who come here as a precautionary measure. “

Since the start of the pandemic this year, a number of restrictions have been imposed on courtrooms at the time of the Allen County Justice Center.

“Everyone who goes through our steel detector takes their temperature. Facial covers are needed. We’ve limited the number of other people in the courtroom, and the hand sanitist is here,” Reed said.

“The downside is that we have distanced ourselves from social problems. We don’t have jury trials in our courtrooms; we keep them (in court) where there is plenty of room to spread. We’re just looking to be incredibly careful. Despite this recent development, we will probably want to take our precautions even more. “

Reed said the news that Kohlrieser had been exposed to the virus “was revealed over the weekend and I had confirmation (on Sunday) that it was quarantined. But it’s okay. “

Glenn Derryberry, a judge at Allen County’s Youth Court and Estates, said the two courts “were also dealing with COVID-19 issues. “

Derryberry stated that some painters are quarantined and painted from home, and that a painter is isolated.

Todd Kohlrieser, judge Terri Kohlrieser’s husband, is a court worker.

Derryberry said the courts are still pending in succession and juvenile courts “but almost all are dealing with remote video technology. “
