The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has passed a new law governing virtual assets, the country’s initial regulatory regime for cryptocurrency at the federal level.

Prior to regulation at the federal level, the UAE had already introduced several virtual asset tracking projects in loose economic zones such as the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM). Last year, Dubai also created its own Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority (VARA).
