New COVID-19 strategy needed: experts
Experts have warned that a review of Vietnam’s detection strategy, the intensification of antigenic testing, is needed to adapt to advances in the COVID-19 epidemic in the country.
The COVID-19 Steering Committee on Prevention and Control, at an assembly in Hanoi on 3 September, asked the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Health to lend a hand to corporations and joints in reading and implementing the antigen detection method.
Regarding a situation of 10,000 instances of COVID-19, the committee requested the Ministry of Health to coordinate with the Ministry of Finance to expand a new screening strategy and deliver it in a time to the National Steering Committee for the Prevention and Control of COVID.-19.
The Ministry of Finance reported that Vietnam had spent nearly $400 million to combat the pandemic.
Professor Dang Duc Anh, director of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, said that because antigen testing can produce precise effects in a short period of time, they can be used in public places such as airports and concentrated quarantine areas, which helps combat pandemics well.
The institute is working with the United States in the technology movement, which is expected to be rolled out in Vietnam at a later date, he added.
Other delegates to the assembly advised Vietnam to use all testing methods, adding antigen and Realtime-LAMP tests, and for corporations to sign up for practical testing.
According to the Ministry of Health, from 3 p.m.on September 3, Vietnam had 1,046 cases of COVID-19, 748 cures and 35 deaths.
