Since Covid-19 vaccines were first introduced to the market in late 2020, many unsubstantiated claims about the side effects of vaccination have emerged, such as claims that Covid-19 vaccines can turn you into a gigantic magnet. , a set of potential side effects of the Covid-19 vaccine actually deserves more attention and scrutiny than it has received. These are the side effects of breakthrough syndrome that some other people have continued to enjoy long after they’ve been vaccinated, hence the nickname “long vax” for WPV.
Amid all the fanfare about Covid-19 vaccines to prevent so many deaths and the dire outcomes of Covid-19 around the world, those suffering from WPV would likely have felt like no one was listening to their stories. That’s why a team of researchers most commonly at Yale University School of Medicine began what they aptly called the LISTEN study, which stands for Yale Listen to Immune, Symptom and Treatment Experiences Now. And this study team recently published a manuscript on medRxiv describing what is now the largest study. Year-to-date in PVS: a pattern of 241 respondents.
Today, 241 may not seem like a very large number, considering the number of people around the world who have been vaccinated against Covid-19, and posting a manuscript on medRxiv can be a bit like posting a video on YouTube. The manuscript describes the PVS as “rare. ” And with web access and a keyboard you can, in theory, publish a manuscript on that website. The manuscript has not undergone the clinical peer review procedure as publications in respectable clinical journals do. So let’s take the effects of this exam with at least 241 grains. of salt.
However, 241 people is still much higher than the reporting of a case and other patterns of people with WPV reported in the past. This is the number of other people in the pattern described in this LISTEN manuscript, 80% of whom are women, 87% of whom are white, 88% of whom are from the United States, and some of whom are under the age of 46. These were other people who responded to LISTEN’s online surveys conducted in November 2022 and July 2023, after being recruited through Hugo Health Kindred, an online patient network, and reported having at least one of the 96 conceivable PVS symptoms indexed in the report. inquiry. The study team, consisting of Harlan M. Krumholz, Yilun Wu, Mitsuaki Sawano, Rishi Shah, Tianna Zhou, Adith S. Arun, Pavan Khosla, Shayaan Kaleem, Anushree Vashist, Bornali Bhattacharjee, Qinglan Ding, Yuan Lu, Cesar Caraballo, Frederick Warner, Chenxi Huang, Jeph Herrin, David Putrino, Danice Hertz, Brianne Dressen, and Akiko Iwasaki excluded anyone who also reported having long Covid.
Of the 241 respondents who met those criteria, 71% reported exercise intolerance, 69% reported excessive fatigue, 63% some numbness, 53% mental confusion and 63% neuropathy. By the way, neuropathy occurs when you’re having fun in some kind of nerve pain, often a stabbing, burning, or tingling sensation, which is obviously not very pleasant. By the way, it’s not that those are isolated symptoms, many of those symptoms can make other people feel quite isolated, as we’ll describe later. Half of the respondents reported experiencing at least 22 other symptoms of WPV.
The vast majority of respondents had received the Covid-19 mRNA vaccines, 127 (55%) received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, and 86 (37%) received the Moderna vaccine. Symptoms began after the first dose of the vaccine for 44%. Of those surveyed, the second dose for 33%, the third dose for 14% and the following doses for 9%. These symptoms also began fairly soon after vaccination, with 50% of respondents reporting that they first detected disorders within 3 days of vaccination. And true to the “long vaccine” moniker, respondents said those symptoms persisted for a long time, ranging from 40 to 1,058 days with an average of 595 days, meaning more than a portion of them had been suffering from those symptoms for more than a year. and a part.
As you can imagine, feeling like your brain is in a fog or feeling stabbing pains in your arms or legs is transitioning into your daily life. Of those surveyed, 93% said they felt uncomfortable, 82% scared, 98% felt depressed, 81% were hit by worry, 76% said they were anxious, 80% were helpless, 76% were depressed, 72% were desperate, and 49% died at least once a week before completing the survey. In addition, 91% reported having sleep disorders and 86% reported having pain that interfered with daily activities.
The results of the LISTEN survey also suggest that those around them didn’t actually pay enough attention to other people suffering from the “long vaccine. “In fact, 41% said they could count on fewer than three other people for help, and 36% said it was complicated or very complicated to get help with responsibilities like grocery shopping or going to the doctor. In addition, 20% felt unaccompanied, 23% felt excluded, 32% felt isolated, and 12% felt lonely or always.
And here is the challenge of almost every pathology that has not received enough attention: in general, not enough time, effort, and resources have been allocated to identify effective and scientifically grounded remedies for such pathologies. This is obviously the case with PVS. As a result, the interviewees tried all kinds of remedies in a dispersed field. In total, respondents said they had tried an average of 20 other remedies. Yes, that’s right, some respondents tried 20 or more different remedies in what may have been largely futile efforts to treat their WPV symptoms. This included 48% oral steroids, 25% gabapentin, 20% low-dose naltrexone, 18% ivermectin, 11% propranolol, and 11% bronchodilators, as well as 51% restricting exercise or exertion, 44% preventing alcohol or caffeine consumption, 44% hydrating and expanding salt intake, and 39% intermittent fasting.
Add this most recent manuscript to the developing evidence framework that vaccination against Covid-19 can in some cases lead to WPV, adding the case studies and reports I covered for Forbes in July. This manuscript has yet to go through the criminals of clinical peer review. So stay tuned for updates. Meanwhile, the LISTEN study continued to recruit participants. As mentioned above, it is still unclear what percentage of people vaccinated against Covid-19 ended up suffering from WPV. Regardless of how rare those side effects are, who really suffers from WPV?The issues related to the Covid-19 vaccine at least deserve to be heard.
