La Salle County coronavirus update: 52 new confirmed cases, 2 additional deaths, 3 added recoveries

Fifty-two new novel coronavirus were reported to the La Salle County Health Department [LCHD], it reported Thursday afternoon, in addition to two additional coronavirus-related deaths —?a man and a woman both in their 90s.

The deaths are the 23rd and 24th in the county since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and bring this week’s total to six.

La Salle County has reached 673 positive tests of its residents since mid-March and has 372 confirmed active cases at this time, per the LCHD. Three recoveries reported Thursday bring that running total to 277.

There have been 15,387 total novel coronavirus tests taken by La Salle County residents — an increase of 456 from Wednesday’s running total.

The new cases include: a woman in her 90s, a man in his 80s, four women in their 70s, two men in their 70s, two women in their 60s, two men in their 60s, five women in their 50s, six men in their 50s, two women in their 40s, one man in his 40s, five women in their 30s, four men in their 30s, seven women in their 20s, six men in their 20s, a teenage girl, two girls under the age of 13 and one boy under the age of 13.

The Illinois Department of Public Health [IDPH] website’s ZIP code data can lag a few days behind the individual county reports as the IDPH tracks cases, meaning one day’s changes to the IDPH ZIP code data can contain cases covered over multiple days of the La Salle County Health Department’s more up-to-date reports.

Since Wednesday’s report, the IDPH’s ZIP code data has been updated as follows:

• Mendota had 42 more confirmed cases posted to the IDPH website Thursday, increasing its total to 153 confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic and causing the city’s mayor to issue a Local State of Emergency [see related story].

• Streator had 10 more confirmed cases, increasing its total to 84.

• La Salle had six more cases, increasing its total to 50 cases.

• Ottawa had an additional three cases, increasing its total to 84 cases.

• Oglesby had an additional three cases, increasing its total to 29 cases.

• Peru had an additional three cases, increasing its total to 45 cases.

• Grand Ridge had two new cases, increasing its total to 13 cases.

• Marseilles had one additional case, increasing its total to 56 cases.

• Sheridan had one new positive COVID-19 test result, increasing its total to 33.

• Earlville had one new case, increasing its total to 18 cases.

• Somonauk had one new case, increasing its total to 21.

• Seneca remained at 14 cases.

• Leland remained at 10 cases.

• Utica remained at six cases.

Drive-thru COVID-19 testing is available 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays at the La Salle County Emergency Management Agency at 711 E. Etna Road, Ottawa. This testing site is open to all regardless of symptoms. Individuals are required to schedule an appointment by calling 815-433-3366 before arriving on site.
