Forty-four new positive tests for the novel coronavirus — including 19 patients in their 80s or 90s — have been reported and one additional death related to COVID-19 has occurred in the county, the La Salle County Health Department [LCHD] confirmed Wednesday.
The man in his 90s who died marks the 22nd death due to complications from the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic and the fourth this week, while the total running number of cases in La Salle County has reached 621. Two were removed from the county’s total and assigned to other counties following case investigations.
The new confirmed cases include: a boy under 13, three men in their 20s, seven women in their 20s, two men in their 30s, two women in their 30s, a man in his 40s, two women in their 40s, a man in his 60s, two women in their 60s, a man in his 70s, three women in their 70s, a man in his 80s, eight women in their 80s and 10 women in their 90s.
Eight additional recoveries from the disease were also reported, bringing that running total to 274.
There are 325 active COVID-19 cases in the county.
According to ZIP code data from the Illinois Department of Public Health website (numbers can lag a few days), since Tuesday’s report:
• Streator had five more confirmed cases, increasing its total to 74 confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic.
• Ottawa had an additional three cases, increasing its total to 81 cases.
• Mendota had two more confirmed cases, increasing its total to 111 cases.
• La Salle had one more case, increasing its total to 44 cases.
• Marseilles had one additional case, increasing its total to 55 cases.
• Seneca had one additional case, increasing its total to 14 cases.
• Oglesby remained at 26 cases.
• Grand Ridge remained at 11 cases.
• Peru remained at 42 cases.
• Sheridan remained at 32 cases (20 of them inmates at Sheridan Correctional Center).
• Earlville remained at 17 cases.
• Leland remained at 10 cases.
• Utica remained at six cases.
• Somonauk saw its number reduced to 20 cases following a case investigation which assigned one case to another county.
No other ZIP code areas within La Salle County have registered six or more confirmed cases as of Tuesday.
There have been 14,931 novel coronavirus tests taken by La Salle County residents, which is 128 more than was reported Tuesday.
Drive-thru COVID-19 testing is available 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays at the La Salle County Emergency Management Agency at 711 E. Etna Road, Ottawa. This testing site is open to all regardless of symptoms. Individuals are required to schedule an appointment by calling 815-433-3366 before arriving on site.
