Cairo: Kuwait’s existing ban on travellers from dozens of countries will be reviewed due to the new coronavirus pandemic, according to media reports.
Earlier this week, Kuwait suspended flights from 31 countries with “high-risk” coronavirus issued by Kuwait’s fitness authorities.
The decision, which came into force immediately, affected thousands of migrants now in the countries of origin indexed on the ban.
“The resolution preventing citizens of 31 countries from entering Kuwait will be reviewed every 10 days,” the Kuwaiti newspaper Al Qabas said citing government sources.
“The list would possibly be shortened or expanded according to reports from the World Health Organization and other foreign agencies,” the resources added.
The review would likely come with a mechanism to return limited categories of expats to Kuwait, such as judges, doctors, nurses and teachers, as needed, added resources.
On Thursday, Kuwait’s Directorate-General for Civil Aviation said that permission to enter the country through foreign experts and technicians was made at the request of government agencies and submitted for approval by the aptitude authorities.
The countries whose citizens have recently been banned from Kuwait are India, Pakistan, Egypt and the Philippines, which have communities in Kuwait.
Other countries come with Iran, China, Bangladesh, Brazil, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Singapore, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Serbia, Montenegro, Peru, Moldova, Singapore, Hong Kong, Panama, Chile and the Dominican Republic.
The ban was announced Saturday hours after Kuwait International Airport was partially reopened for advertising flights after a break of approximately five months.
