Cairo: Kuwait has presented a plan to eliminate expatriates in municipal jobs in the country and update them with citizens, Kuwaiti media reported.
The Rana Al Fares Municipality Ministry has developed a three-phase plan to update foreign workers in municipal jobs with Kuwaitis.
The plan will take effect on September 1, terminating the contracts of 33% of expatriates after giving them notices of cessation of activity, the Al Qabas newspaper reported. . 1 while on July 3 the rest of the expatriates will take effect on July 1, he added.
In a letter to municipal executive leader Ahmed Al Manfuhi, a copy of which he received through Al Qabas, the minister requested lists of non-Kuwaiti workers to initiate legal proceedings to terminate their services, the newspaper said.
Based on this scheme, the Minister ordered the cessation of all procedures similar to the appointment of non-Kuwaitis or their transfer between municipal sectors.
Certain categories are exempt from the scheme, adding foreign workers whose mother is Kuwaiti; nationals of the Gulf Cooperation Council; registered stateless persons; service workers; and 50 consistent with one hundred funeral workers.
Kuwait has recently intensified its efforts to correct its demographic imbalance and update abroad with its citizens under an employment policy called “Kuwaitization”.
Foreigners make up only about 3. 4 million of Kuwait’s total population of 4. 6 million.
In recent months, calls have increased in Kuwait to restrict the employment of foreigners following allegations that migrants have tested the country’s infrastructure amid the economic fallout from COVID-19.
