Kuwait: On Tuesday, Kuwait’s cabinet of ministers approved the return of domestic staff stranded due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Al Anba reported.
The government has legalized the Corona Emergency Committee, headed by the Minister of the Interior, to prepare a report on the return policy.
A source told Al Anba that the Minister of Health, Dr. Basel Al Sabah, will attend the fitness committee assembly to review and prepare the proposal.
In addition, the committee will work to finalize the procedures and return needs of domestic staff to ensure the protection of all. As for rented apartments, the source indicated that only valid permit holders or sponsors have renewed their contract. The online license will be to enter the country.
Several domestic employees have been stranded abroad due to the ban imposed in 34 countries. Most domestic staff in Kuwait come from banned countries such as India, the Philippines and Sri Lanka.
With regard to the recruitment of new domestic workers, the source said it would review the proposal and discuss it with the Corona Emergency Committee, which would then forward it to the Cabinet of Ministers for approval.
For about nine months now, Kuwait has banned the recruitment of domestic staff from 25 countries, 23 of whom are Africans and the other two are Indonesia and Bhutan.
This is the first time Kuwait has banned the recruitment of domestic staff from abroad.
