Knesset cancels restrictions and reopens restaurants

He suffered his most recent defeat when the Knesset Coronavirus Committee rejected the ban on dining at on-site restaurants.

The Knesset coronavirus committee voted Tuesday morning to reject new government regulations banning on-site food at restaurants across the country, paving the way for the reopening of restaurants.

In the government’s latest defeat, which had several decisions to curb the spread of cancelled coronavirus, the committee reinstated previous regulations for restaurants, allowing not only takeaway and home delivery orders, but also food for up to 20 others. 30 more diners outside.

The committee’s chairman, Ms. Yifat Shasha-Biton, said in the committee’s deliberation Tuesday that the government can still establish regulations to minimize the threat of coronavirus spread in restaurants.

“I hope the government will come up with a proposal next week that will standardize food indoors and outdoors.”

Coalition President Miki Zohar (Likud) criticized the Knesset Coronavirus Committee for his decision, saying, “You are a country locked up in a month.”

The committee’s resolution comes hours after the government’s ban came into force at five o’clock in the morning from eating in places to eat, forcing the closure of places to eat across the country.

While the government has the strength to adopt restrictions to curb the coronavirus without passing legislation in the Knesset, regulations must be passed through the Knesset within a week of its adoption through the government.
