Kei Nishikori, a doubt for the US Open after a coronavirus test

Former world No. 4 Kei Nishikori is expected to miss the U.S. Open after a positive moment by coronavirus.

Former world No. 4 Kei Nishikori is expected to miss the US Open after a positive moment by coronavirus.

The Japanese announced that he had Covid-19 this week, forcing him to withdraw from the Western and South Open in New York, but a moment shows that he still has the virus.

With the Grand Slam starting on August 31 and two negative tests to get into the bubble, Nishikori doesn’t have time to get there.

He’ll be quarantined in Florida now.

“Just a little update, I just passed control of Covid and I’m still sure,” he wrote in his official app. “I have minimal symptoms and remain in general isolation.

“The next check will take place early next week, when we will keep them informed with more information. Thanks for all the messages and have a weekend.”

A lot of players will be absent from the tournament as they have made the decision not to do so due to the dangers of coronavirus.

Defending male champion Rafael Nadal, protective champion Bianca Andreescu, women’s number one and two-time world numbers Ashleigh Barty and Simona Halep and Australian Nick Kyrgios are among the top names to retire.

The Western and South Open, which begins on Saturday, is played in the same place as Flushing Meadows, which has been in a biosecurity bubble.
