Kazakhstan’s monetary regulator has revoked the license of Tengri Bank, a small local lender of which India’s National Bank of Punjab is the largest shareholder, announced Friday.
The regulator said in a statement that Tengri had not continually met prudential needs and had not increased its capital in accordance with the authorities’ instructions.
The bank, which accounts for only 0. 3% of Kazakhstan’s total banking assets, has been dealing with bad debts, first of all, granted to parties affiliated with its Kazakh shareholders, the regulator said.
