HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) – A Kansas criminal was locked up due to a coronavirus outbreak that affected nearly a hundred inmates and criminal staff, the government announced Wednesday.
Kansas Department of Corrections secretary Jeff Zmuda said none of the 84 inmates and 10 at Hutchinson Correctional Center who tested positive this week had symptoms. Fifteen inmates and seven have already tested positive in the prison, which houses some 1,880 men.
Some inmates will remain locked in their cells due to the new outbreak, while others will be transferred to Lansing Prison, where a medical unit has been established to treat COVID-19 cases. Lansing, the site of an earlier epidemic in which more than 900 people were infected.
The announcement came a day after the Sedgwick County detention center showed that 112 inmates and 11 members had tested positive. The criminal in the largest city in the state of Wichita, which has about 1,510 inmates, is conducting widespread tests this week.
Dr. Lee Norman, the state’s most sensible public fitness officer, said the fight against the epidemic was especially complicated in Hutchinson Prison because of its seniority. The criminal dates back to the 1880s and some spaces lack air to improve ventilation.
“It will be a problematic installation,” he said. “What they’re doing now is the formula that has succeeded. But in either case, the instances have evolved quite temporarily and we want to do everything we can. Array»
The announcement comes when the Kansas Department of Health and Environment has reported 817 more cases of COVID-19 since Monday for a total of 32,547 and 8 more deaths for a total of 395. It is idea that the number of infections is much higher because many other people have not been evaluated and experts think that other people can inflame the virus without feeling unwell.
Meanwhile, the city of Wichita will postpone its youth football season on Monday in the spring, The Wichita Eagle reported.
Troy Houtman, Wichita’s director of parks and recreation, said the resolution only included recreation programs and parks. Approximately 1,800 young people participate each season. This does not apply to sports at the best schools and universities.
